This medium sized jewelry box features finely cut dovetails, and
a decorative top highlighted by three inlaid beveled panels of black
palm bookmatched end grain, framed in ebony with koa accent lines.
The top is both bold and masculine, and the box is equally at home
in serving as a men's valet as a women's jewelry box. The top is made
by slicing a solid wood block into 1/8" thick panels, and gluing
them into routed recesses in such a way as to allow seasonal movement.
The sliding half-width tray houses a two-slot ring pad. Beneath the
tray are two dividers running front to back near each end, and an
easily removable grid of dividers, perfect for earrings and other
small items, in the center. For housing larger objects, all the dividers
and the tray may be removed. buy

Close-up of the dovetail joint in front. Perfect joinery and koa's
wild grain make this a little hard to see. Dovetails like this are
typically seen only in the finest hand cut work. |

Detail of bookmatched black palm end grain panel. This is a very
remarkable wood grain, set off in the vibrant and warm golden browns
of koa, and framed in jet black gabon ebony. The panels sit just proud
of the tops surface, with a delicate bevel catching the light at the
panels edges. |
